On May 2nd 2019, the Thames Higher Education Asia University ranking was released. Tsinghua University surpassed the Singapore National University, which ranked the top three times before. This is also the first time that Chinese universities have reached the top of the ranking.

This year, Thames Higher Education Asia ranked more than 400 universities from 27 countries and regions, including 72 Chinese universities, up from 63 last year. The National University of Singapore ranked second in this ranking, while the University of Science and Technology of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong and Peking University ranked third to fifth.
Among the top 100 universities on the list, 26 universities in mainland China were listed, such as Peking University, Fudan University, China University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University and Wuhan University.
At present, Thames higher education world university rankings, QS world university rankings, USNews world university rankings and ARWU world university academic rankings are recognized as the four authoritative world university rankings. The Thames higher education Asia university rankings, published this week, use five measures of performance to judge universities: teaching (learning environment), research (quantity, income and reputation), citation (research impact), international perspective (staff, students and research) and industry income (knowledge transfer). The top ranking of tsinghua university is mainly attributed to its improved teaching environment, citation influence and international outlook.
