Times Higher Education released the Times Higher Education world university rankings 2020 on September 12th. Tsinghua University and Peking University were ranked 23rd and 24th respectively, taking the top two spots in Asia. The number of mainland Chinese universities on the list also increased dramatically, from 72 to 81.
Oxford University topped the list for the fourth year, California institute of Technology ranked second. Us universities continue to dominate the top 200, while Asian institutions are once again moving up the rankings.
The Times higher education ranking, now in its 16th year, covers more than 1,300 universities from 92 countries, the largest number so far.
The top two universities in Asia are Tsinghua University and Peking University. Tsinghua University remains at the top, though it has dropped to 23rd place from 22nd last year. Peking University, on the other hand, rose seven places to overtake the National University of Singapore in 24th place.
Seven universities from the Chinese mainland made it into the world’s top 200 universities, the same number as last year. Other mainland Chinese universities that have made it into the world’s top 200 include the University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University, Fudan university, Nanjing University and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
