China has become the third largest destination for overseas students: It is expected that 500,000 students will come to China in 2020.
According to the report, 10% of the world’s international students studied in China in 2018, making China the third largest destination country in the world.
In 2018, 492,185 foreign students from 196 countries and regions studied in 1,004 institutions of higher learning, an increase of 0.62% over 2017. By 2020, the number of foreign students in China is expected to reach 500,000, the report said.
To attract international students, China has promoted the quality of education, offered financial aid and scholarships, and changed the curriculum and teaching model.
In 2018, there were 63,041 Chinese government scholarship students, accounting for 12.81% of the total international students, and the number has kept increasing for several years.
